For the second time in recent months, the Tampa Sports Authority has announced a major renovation deal. This time, TSA and the New York Yankees have agreed to a $40 Million comprehensive upgrade to George M. Steinbrenner Field as well as extending the lease agreement between the Yankees and the TSA to keep the team’s spring training games in Tampa through 2046.
General Counsel for the Tampa Sports Authority, Steve Anderson, played the lead role in the complex negotiations with the Yankees, and attorneys for Hillsborough County, Hillsborough Community College and Hillsborough County Aviation Authority. The improvements to Steinbrenner Field will include the addition of areas providing fans a 360° view of the field, via new outfield concourses. The addition of group and social gathering areas, plus additional shaded areas, will greatly enhance the overall fan experience. A vastly improved entrance will provide fans ease of access to the facility. Additional improvements include renovations to the Yankees Training Complex on Himes Avenue. The renovations will begin after receiving all the necessary approvals and are expected to be completed in time for the 2017 spring training season.
