Mr. Anderson concentrates his practice in government representation, administrative law, construction issues and commercial litigation. He has represented clients before the Governor, Cabinet, legislature, and administrative agencies as well as before the City, County and all other units of local government.
Mr. Anderson has worked extensively with city and county governments in west central Florida representing private businesses. He has negotiated major franchises, permits, inter-local agreements and local ordinances. He has also negotiated and drafted extremely complex contracts and documents in relation to his governmental practice, including license/leases of government property, public-private partnership documents, owner controlled insurance agreements and multi-jurisdictional inter-local agreements. He also frequently renders advice on public meetings, records, ethics and constitutional issues.
Mr. Anderson maintains an active trial and arbitration practice before state, federal and administrative tribunals. He recently won licensure for an ambulance company which had been denied for ten years, and a $3 Million jury verdict for a client in federal district court. He prefers to find solutions through negotiation or mediation, but having his level of experience makes that more achievable.
Mr. Anderson has served as General Counsel for the Tampa Port Authority, the Tampa Sports Authority, the Hillsborough County Property Appraiser’s office and the Tampa-Hillsborough County Expressway Authority. He has represented the University of South Florida, the City of Tampa, Pasco County and other government agencies on special matters. Because of his broad experience in governmental issues, Mr. Anderson is frequently called upon to help develop both long and short range strategies and proposals at both the local and state levels. Mr. Anderson is recognized in Best Lawyers In America every year since 2009, and has been recognized several times as a Florida Top Lawyer and as a Super Lawyer in the Government Practice. He has also received Martindale Hubbell’s AV Preeminent rating.
Mr. Anderson served as a member of the Tampa Sports Authority from 1992 through 2000, and was vice- chair and its chair during the design of Tampa’s new NFL stadium and contract negotiations with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is past president of the University of South Florida National Alumni Association. In 1999, he was appointed by The Florida Board of Regents to the University of South Florida Presidential Selection Advisory Committee. In addition, he is the immediate past President of the Tampa Friends of the Riverwalk and chair of the Historical Monument Trail Committee.
Mr. Anderson is an instrument rated private pilot, an avid tennis player and frequent Little League coach.
Steven A. Anderson is a recipient of the University of South Florida’s Distinguished Alumni Award. He has received numerous recognitions over the years for his community involvement and leadership.
